Coercivity refers to the durability of the magnetic charge to the card. HiCo cards are found often with debit/credit cards, as the charge needs to withstand multiple swipes over a long time period. Card reader functions/examples are as follows.
- Read - Receptionist scanning card at a reader at the front desk to determine the room it's mapped to; guest scanning at a hotel room door to gain access
- Write - Receptionist programming a blank card to a room, re-programming to another room, erasing the card, etc.
